Ten tips against burglars
-
Lock your doors
Even if you are only out briefly: a door that has just been pulled shut is not locked. We show you how to secure your front door additionally under Door security. -
Close windows and patio doors
Close them completely instead of just tilting them – a tilted window is an open window. Modern alarm systems remind you, and window security makes levering them open difficult. -
Never hide a spare key
Under the doormat or in the flowerpot is where everyone looks first. -
Don't keep large sums of money at home
If you must, then only in a firmly anchored and insured safe. -
Opportunity makes the thief
Put away or lock up ladders, tools and other climbing aids. -
Switch off outdoor sockets
Otherwise they allow heavy equipment to be used. Deactivate outdoor sockets above all when you are away for longer. -
Avoid dense planting
Thick hedges right in front of windows and doors are perfect cover for burglars too. -
Provide enough outdoor lighting
Burglars don't want to be seen. Light entrances and outdoor areas sensibly; video surveillance can be an additional deterrent. -
Get your neighbours on board
Let them know when you are away for longer, e.g. on holiday, and look out for each other. If you see anything suspicious, report it to the police immediately. -
Avoid signs that you are away
Full letterboxes, holiday photos on Facebook, Instagram & co., curtains that stay closed all the time: empty apartments and houses are easy pickings.
